Special events:
- Virginia Cantaloupe Festival - Located in Turbeville, Virginia, the festival is held at the end of July. Beach music, spirits, and plenty of cantaloupes. The Governor and other politicians usually make their appearance.
- Halifax County Fair - Midway attractions, and agricultural exhibits. Held in October. Expect to stand in line for at least 30 minutes for the cinnamon buns.
- Virgilina Summerfest - Held Memorial Day weekend.
- Noland Village Day - Held in Providence, celebrates the restoration of 18th century structures, including the first Halifax County Presbyterian Church.
- Cluster Springs Support Day - Held in Cluster Springs.
- 4th of July Celebration in Scottsburg - Parade, live music, fireworks, arts & crafts, games, and dancing. Some of the things you see in this parade will amaze you.
- Harvest Days Arts & Crafts Festival - Held in downtown South Boston in the early fall harvest season.
- Festival of the Arts - Artists, photographers, craftsmen and musicians from all over. Held in May on the Halifax County Middle School grounds.
- Halifax Ruritan Arts & Crafts Festival - Held every October in the town of Halifax.
- Halifax County Little Theater - Three performances per year. Great web site!
- Holiday Living Show - Held the second weekend in November at the Halifax County High School. Arts & crafts.
- Annual Antique & Crafts Show - Held every March at C.H. Friend Elementary School.
Things to do & Places to see:
- Historic Sites -The early churches, homes and plantations of Halifax County.
- Recreation -Bowling, movie theaters, YMCA , rollerskating, ball fields (lots of Dixie Youth Baseball), swimming pools, tennis courts, and two 18 hole golf courses.
- South Boston Speedway -A NASCAR sanctioned race track.
- St. John's Episcopal Church - Historic church in the town of Halifax with tombstones dating to Revolutionary days.
- Staunton River State Park -About 1900 acres of forest with a swimming pool, camping, and picnic facilities and walking trails. Don't forget to bring your canoe! The river, viewed by canoe, can offer a close look at nature. Keep your eyes open for the wildlife.
- The Staunton River Battlefield State Park. Visit this Civil War site.
- South Boston-Halifax County Museum of Fine Arts and History - Since 1982, the the Museum has provided a place for the collection, display, and preservation of art and historical preservation..
- Little Plantation - Authentic restoration of an 1830 plantation.
- Farmers Market - Open May through October on Tuesdays and Saturdays in downtown South Boston.
- The Clover Center at Fort Hill - Museum affiliated with Clover Power Station
- Major nearby attractions: Buggs Island Lake 20 miles east on 58. This is on a BIG Lake! Lots of good fishin". (I've heard stories about catfish bigger than a man). Occoneechee State Park, On the other side of the lake from Clarksville. Each year the descendants of the Occoneechee Tribe present their history as a reminder of the way this land once was.
