Mission & Objectives

Parsons-Bruce Art Association is a non-profit all volunteer organization whose members believe that art is for everyone. Since 1976 Parsons-Bruce has been an indispensable font of visual art from eye-popping exhibits to hands-on classes and everything in between. Its sole mission is to serve the community.

Parsons-Bruce sponsors art classes in a variety of media for all ages, a monthly classic and independent film series, art exhibits, speakers, workshops, commissioned artwork, museum trips, student artist scholarships and even poetry readings.

Parsons-Bruce Art Association has received grants from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, partners with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and is a major fund-raiser for The Prizery with its biennial art gala, “An Affair of the Arts.”

The Parsons-Bruce Art Association was founded in 1976 and named for two artists with Southside Virginia ties.

Edith Baretto Stevens Parsons, a sculptor, was born in 1878 at "Woodburn", a home on Mountain Road in Halifax.

Patrick Henry Bruce, a painter, was born in 1881 either at Long Island, in Campbell County, or at Tarover, a family home in Halifax County.
