The Parsons-Bruce Art Association was founded in 1976 and named for two artists with Southside Virginia ties. Edith Baretto Stevens Parsons, a sculptor, was born in 1878 at "Woodburn", a home on Mountain Road in Halifax. Patrick Henry Bruce, a painter, was born in 1881 either at Long Island, in Campbell County, or at Tarover, a family home in Halifax County.

Parsons-Bruce is the local affiliate of The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond. The art association schedules varied art classes, workshops, lectures, and exhibits for its members and the general public as well as social events and trips to near-by cultural events.
