WHAT'S HAPPENING

A broad and exciting series of activities are planned for Fall 2008. We will begin with a series of ballroom dance classes on August 14,21, and 28 and a refresher class on September 18 in preparation for the Tobacco Ball on September 20. Patricia Ward of Moving Voices,Inc. will teach couples the basics of two popular 1930's dances-the fox trot and swing dance. There is only space for thirteen couples-join the fun! The cost is $45/couple for PBAA members and $60/couple for non-PBAA members. Please send your check to PBAA, P 0 Box 234, South Boston, VA to sign up for these classes. Contact Carol Foster at 572-6773 or Barbara Speece at 572-4330 for additional information.

Lee Sandstead will present a lecture on Stained Glass Windows in Halifax County at The Chastain Theatre on Thursday, September 11. This free community event will also include a reception in the art gallery of The Prizery following the lecture.

PBAA will also support The Art of SoLo, a modern dance performance, on Saturday, October 4. The primary sponsor of this special evening performance, Moving Voices, is bringing a nationally recognized dance group to Halifax County for the single performance. PBAA will sponsor a reception following the evening performance in the art gallery of The Prizery.

Plans are underway for a special evening on October 13. Dr. Mary Sweeney Ellitt, VMFA Speaker on The Arts, will present a program on Good Wine, Good Food, and Good Friends: An Up-close and Personal Look at Renoir's Luncheon of the Boating Party. A members-only reception will coincide with this program at The Prizery. Additional information will be sent to members.

PBAA art classes are planned for fall 2008. Classes will include pottery classes for youth and adults as well as an adult portrait class. Additional details will be publicized through local media as well as sent to PBAA members.

GRANT

PBAA recently received a $1100 grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts for assistance with general operating expenses, including mailings, postage, and publicity expenses. This grant supports both this mailing, as well as other administrative costs associated with providing services to the community with an all-volunteer organization.
