The Crossing of the Dan's 227th Commemoration will begin on Friday, February 8, with county school presentations, featuring D'oyle Moore as General Nathanael Greene, and continue to Saturday the 9th with a Laying of the Wreath ceremony by the SAR and DAR, and guest speaker, author Larry Aarons. The Crossing of the Dan exhibit design phase has been completed. As of January 2007 we have received about 1/3 of the funding needed to continue into the construction phase. An Architectural History of Halifax County - This Hardbook will contain approximately 500 pages of illustrations, photos, histories, and guidelines for preserving historic properties. This volume will go on sale during the fall of 2008. See Publications for more detail. History of Halifax - This is a republication of the original two volume hardback by Pocahontas Wight Edmunds and is now available for sale. The Race to the Dan - "the retreat that rescued the American Revolution", written by Larry Aaron - an educator, historian and a Pittsylvania County resident - on sale now. The author is contributing all proceeds to the the construction and maintenance of The Crossing of the Dan exhibit.

DeJarnette's Tavern, built in the 1780s, is located on Highway 40 or Stage Coach Road in Halifax County. The house is on three acres which includes a log granary, a chicken house and the remains of two tobacco barns. DeJarnette's Tavern is a rare, surviving example of vernacular tavern architecture.
